Fascinators, frocks and fashion, it’s that time of the year again when the biggest horse race stops the nation!
A fashionista’s dream event, because she likely knows very little about the actual race itself, yet is far more interested in the fashion…the Melbourne Cup 2019 is almost here!
If your like moi, who only turns up for the fashion, then this blogpost is perfect for you! In this week’s post, I have put together an understated chic Melbourne Cup look that will earn you major credit for style & sophistication.
Far from previous years when going over the top was a requirement, this year I have opted for something a little more toned down yet youthful and chic.
While there are always ‘general’ rules to follow when dressing for the Melbourne Cup, it’s still so individual and tailored to the type of event that you will be attending. Just remember to avoid body-con, deep V necklines & opt for chic fabrics.
With lace making a comeback this SS 19’ season, I thought what better way to incorporate this trend into my wardrobe then in the form of a chic fit and flare dress for the Melbourne Cup.
The dress that I am wearing is the Chantelle Lace Skater Dress, available from Dotti. It features a high round neckline, invisible zip, sleeveless and offers a mini length finish.
Reminiscent of an A-Line style dress, this chic skater style dress is firm and fit at the top then flows out for a feminine fun flirty finish.
Next, accessories play a crucial role in a Melbourne Cup look especially when it comes to headpieces. With facinators leading the trend of headwear, it was an easy choice to look to something different.
For the purpose of this look, I teamed this vintage Kate Spade crossbody bag with the dress and added a rose-gold sandal for a dressed down look. For a finish with a pop, try adding a pair of embellished stiletto heels and your race day ready!
