Pop of Purple

Think back to Spring 2014 and you will get a fond recollection of pleated skirts.Pleats are making a surprise resurgence. Instagram street-style Queens are making a strong case for pleated skirts once more, with a few styling updates.

In this week’s blog post I’ve provided a refresher on how to wear the pleated skirt in 2019.Five years ago pleats made a cool-kid comeback thanks to the runway shows of Proenza Schouler and as predicted the elegant ‘50s silhouette flooded the high street brands from Zara to H & M, stocking all the styles imaginable.

Scroll through Insta and every chic fashionista donned this must-have with a white tee and Gucci sneakers. Just look back to this blog post here and you will see the black midi skirt was on high blast.

Now if you hold on to your nearest and dearest tight (like moi) then you’ve earnt yourself the right to pull it out of your wardrobe and start wearing it again this season.

Evoking confusion and mixed opinions, the pleated skirt was off the radar for some time and considered a bit of a one-season wonder. However, it’s returned for the Summer ’19 season in brighter shades and hues.

This pleated violet skirt that I am wearing is available from Witchery (online & instore). Finished with an all over soft pleating, the skirt will add touch of femininity and elegance to your look. This full skirt will sit off the body and features an elastic waistband (note there is no zip so it just pulls on).

The rules change slightly each season when it comes to recycling trends, so with the pleated skirt my most crucial piece of advice is to team it with cropped tops for Summer and team chunky knits in Winter for on-trend style.

Just like a jumpsuit, the pleated skirt will literally make your outfit, once more something such as this bold purple will provide a fresh update to your wardrobe. The length of the skirt is perfect for the current season and the Autumn and Winter months ahead (mileage is endless).

Block colours work best teamed with purple, so opt for either black for a simplified chic look, or dress down the skirt with a white logo tee for a weekend vibe. When it comes to introducing accessories, choose pieces that will compliment your outfit.

The best advantage to accessories is that they can change the look instantly, just like footwear. For a dressed up look add heels or for a street-inspired look choose white sneakers or flats.

The pleated skirt is traditionally long in length but it also provides a flattering finish, making it very versatile. The next time you’re looking for a new on-trend look, turn your attention to the pleated skirt!

  1. I so love pleats Natalie! It looks so nice in the violet and I like how feminine it is with its softness. The length is perfect and it goes good with the black top and cute shoes ! Thanks so much for sharing , Terri xo.
