Rewind two seasons ago, and it was all about the maxi dress. The long, flowy iconic full length dress was on everybody’s wish list! IT was an instant outfit without even thinking, stood the test of time and became synomous with luxury holidays.
Fast forward to the Summer ’19 season and the maxi has taken a back seat, in replacement of the striped wide-leg pants.
Just like the maxi, striped pants give you an outfit all in one and take the guess work out of styling too. With very little maintenance required striped pants will have your weekend wardrobe covered.
Earning optimum points for style, these chic high-waisted pants are light enough that you won’t even feel as if your wearing any pants (but rather a skirt feel).
The advantage to the striped pants is that they are the perfect scapegoat in the hot season when you may have missed one or two tanning sessions and can’t quite be bothered to re-apply bronzer all over your legs.
This particular pair of pants that I am wearing is available from the brand Stella (available from Myer) They are crafted from a cotton fabric and feature a high waist with a tie, pockets and fall to a 7/8 length. They sit very comfortable on the waist making it ideal for wearing all day.
When it comes to styling these on-trend pants, there are only a handful of rules to follow. Think uniform colours which include, black, white, navy, grey, beige this way they will always set the stripes off perfectly without clashing.
To keep this look in theme with Summer, I opted to team a white cropped Tee (available from Kookai) for a casual yet effortless outfit that can take me anywhere. In staying with uniform colours, feel free to team different styles of tops with the pants.
To add a dressed up tone to this look, opt for a tighter singlet top or strapless style which can look very chic. Do keep it simple however, as the pants will do the majority of the work. I wanted to pick up the white stripe in the pant so I chose a white tee, however for a slightly more formal look opt for black which will dress this look up fast.
In terms of accessories, keep it minimal and stay within various tones and shades of tan. Less will always be more when dressing up stripes, so be mindful of this when selecting your pieces.
Team your favourite pair of shoes with the pants, they are very versatile and can take a heel or a wedge. Furthermore for a street-style look be bold an team white sneakers with the pants. The next time you’re looking for a cool chic alternative to wear in Summer, think stripes!
