For a fresh, paired back take on Summer dressing turn your attention to the only fabric which earns the right to be part of your Summer capsule wardrobe, that is of course the luxurious Linen.
Long been considered a fabric synonymous with style, Linen is a natural fabric with a distinctly earthy aroma. The fibres are woven stalks of the flax plant Linunlusitatissimum, of which it takes its name. Minimalists love linen purely for the fact that it’s neutral colour palette and tones, offer endless style and comfort too.
In the long hot days of Summer, (and I’m talking about the super-hot heat) dressing chic can be quite the challenge. In this week’s blog post, I’ve put together an easy, go-anywhere Summer look centered around this wrap Linen top, (available from Bardot).
Back in the day, when owning a white Linen blazer would earn you major style notes, fast forward to 2019 and were slowly working it back into the wardrobe via the ‘minimalists’ version.
The wrap linen top is the perfect addition to your Summer capsule wardrobe as the effortless appeal and chic design make it by far the most comfortable piece of clothing to wear in the heat. It features gathering detailing at the front, cross over adjustable straps and an exposed back zip.
Structured enough to look polished yet still comfortable to wear all day, it’s the perfect piece to add to your capsule wardrobe. The breathability of linen is ideal for Summer as it won’t stick to you and can actually cool you down when it’s really hot.
With a lower thread count than even the finest cotton, and a distinct lack of elasticity, linen wicks away moisture from the body without affecting the shape, unlike cotton.Linen is a remarkably durable fabric, and becomes softer with wash and wear.
Because of its lack of elasticity, the ‘crumples’ you get when you wear linen are what makes it so distinct. It’s a casual yet luxurious fabric, which is why every European woman has at least a few items made from this fabric in her wardrobe.
The best advantage about the wrap linen beige top is that it can easily be paired with anything in your wardrobe. To keep with the Summer theme, I opted to wear a pair of white chiffon shorts. Rather simple and not fussy, the linen lets the style do the talking and therefore works well paired with neutral colours and doesn’t try too hard either.
Obviously anything from a neutral colour palette will work with your separates so just decide on the look you want to achieve and get creative with your outfits.
From a soft linen scarf to ward off the cooler evenings, to a linen dress which can take you through to the height of summer, the fabric is natural and durable, easy to layer, and can be matched stylishly with other wardrobe staples for a classic look.
Complete this easy chic look by introducing some accessories to add a pop of colour & spark to your look. I kept my accessories to neutral tones however opted for a few bling pieces to off-set the beige and white. In terms of footwear, I like to get around in Summer most comfortable as possible, so I keep going back to these low-heeled block sandals for every day wear.
The slight glitter strap on the shoe add an extra touch of glam to any outfit. The next time your looking to add to your capsule wardrobe turn your attention straight to linen, it will be sure to get you through the long hot Summer!
