Back to Black Basics

Next to glittering cocktail parties, long-table lunches and sunset drinks on rooftop bars, its’ time to get back to the basics that the other side of our Summer wardrobe demands.

Hot days, humid heat and warm nights calls for some serious wardrobe back up basics that can endure yet still look super chic. While the little black playsuit is anything we haven’t seen before nor ground breaking in terms of speaking ‘runway trends’, it does however hold a certain place in the wardrobe that is not to be denied.

While a little black playsuit might not be ground breaking on trend it hold a certain place in the wardrobe for what is considered a ‘basic essentials’.

Comofrtable enough to wear all day, stylish enough to turn up to any event in and look the part..I would say a black playsuit takes priority in summer over your LBD.

In this week’s blog post, I’ve created a look around this playsuit by adding some clever styling tips and introducing a pop of colour to add a little extra touch to this look.

Never underestimate the mileage that a black playsuit can provide in your wardrobe, choose one with the right cut and fabric for your wardrobe and chances are you will always look in uniform and on trend.

The playsuit that I am wearing is from the brand L/A Collective and is available from  Myer. The playsuit features a cross-over neckline, pockets and is constructed from a stretchy fabric.

Possibly the biggest advantage with this particular playsuit is that there are no zips, so to get the piece on you step into it then pull it over the shoulders and magic everything falls into place! Compared to other playsuits/jumpsuits I have owned this rates the highest for comfort and easy accessibility (we are all familiar with the inconvenience of going to the toilet when wearing a jumpsuit) lol.

The chic finish on this playsuit allows for something that looks stylish and effortless, so it is as easily dressed up as it looks. Going out dinner and drinks.., just add heels, metallic accessories and you’re ready to go.

Otherwise for an easy all day chic look, opt for flat sandals, aviators, and some chunky long necklaces. The work is all done for you with this piece so all your job is to do is deciding how you want to wear this piece and team your favourite accessories.

To introduce a pop of colour with this look, turn to your existing accessories in your wardrobe and get creative by matching your favourite pieces with the playsuit. As I wanted to keep this look for day, I opted to pair this Michael Kors purple bag with the black playsuit for a touch of interest.

I also kept the theme of shades of pinks/purples by wearing the pink aviator’s shades (which are available from Country Road). To keep the look on-trend, I opted to team a metallic necklace with the playsuit which complimented the neckline.

Keep the theme of colour going, by adding pops of bright shades into your make-up, a bold fuchsia pink lip shade will always work well against the black. For the purpose of keeping the look day appropriate, I teamed a low-block heel sandal with the outfit, which features a hint of rose-gold sequins on the straps.

When you’re looking next to build on your basics in your wardrobe, try turning your attention to the little black playsuit….I promise it won’t let you down! xx
