Playsuit Pursuit

Tis the season of endless sunny days, warm nights and long table lunches, so exactly what does one wear when the LBD isn’t quite going to cut it for the festive season…try a playsuit!

Fun, flirty and for the girl who doesn’t take herself to seriously, the playsuit is once again having a ‘moment’ and what better time to invest in one than the season of non-stop festivities.

The shorter sister of the jumpsuit, the playsuit is a super-fast way to update your seasonal wardrobe, without flashing too much flesh and promises to take you from day to night in a blink of an eye. The playsuit is a great alternative to the conventional Summer dress and promises lots of versatility.

Aside from the festive events, I have always loved the idea of a playsuit yet sometimes struggled to find one that looks both on-trend and stylish. This particular piece that I am wearing is available from Dotti. It features a back zip and has a detachable belt that comes with the playsuit.

The belt fits the loop holes perfectly; however you do have the option to change if you like. If you’re looking for a playsuit that guarantees instant style points then this one’s for you, the relaxed shorts and off-the-shoulder neckline plus delicate detail on the waist make for a very polished piece.

The elastic on the sleeves helps to keep the top in place so it sits firmly but still very comfortable and wont dig into the skin. Remember that when you are looking for a piece in your wardrobe for your next event or function, the playsuit will literally do all the work for you.

Just like the jumpsuit, your only job is to style your outfit accordingly to the purpose/occasion. For the purpose of this look, I wanted to create an ideal outfit to wear for a long table lunch.

Instead of flats, I opted to team a pair of wooden wedge heels, that featured nude straps that tie up around the ankle, which helped to add a touch of day-time glam to my look. Wedges are a great option for day events as they provide height yet still look apprproaite for day.

Also, accessories will be your best friend when it comes to the Playsuit so don’t be afraid to introduce pops of colour with your look or keep it classic with some rose-gold and silver bangles just as I have with this look. I also teamed my ever so faithful tan DKNY cross body bag with the playsuit for a subtle finish.

If you want to dress this piece up even more you could sway the belt for something with a touch of sparkle or diamontes which will inject a lot of glam into the outfit.A few key hints to remember when purchasing or investing in a playsuit, it should always fit the body well enough that it drapes slightly on the bottom half so it’s not too tight.

When a playsuit is doesn’t have enough structure it will look the opposite of chic, opt for fabrics that are lighter and playsuits that are fully lined, in order to achieve that polished finish. Don’t be afraid to change the look of your playsuit either with a few styling tips I mentioned above, as this piece is versatile enough. Keep your LBD’s for the cooler months and cocktail dresses for Melbourne cup, Playsuits are for now!
