Statement Stripes

Amp up your Spring wardrobe by investing in a pair of striped culottes. Not only is it one trend that the fashion forecasters could not even predict coming  but has fast been embraced by every street style blogger, model & not to mention the Insta cool kids!

As were very slowly approaching the season of sunshine, florals and warmer weather, it’s time to start thinking about the trans-seasonal pieces that you will need for your wardrobe turnover. Between, shift dresses, light-wash denim cut-offs and bright prints, Spring is looking chic, bold and a little more serious this season.

This pair of culottes that I am wearing is available from the Dotti and is part of the new season collection, The relaxed fit of the culotte, makes for an incredibly versatile wardrobe investment as many different styles of tops can be teamed with these pants.

For this look, I have opted to team this faux fur cropped jacket with the pants for a Winter themed outfit. For the remainder few weeks of Winter left, you may be restricted to knit wear to team with your pants . The piece that I am wearing underneath the jacket is just a basic knit from Kookai.

You will notice that the pants are a statement piece all on their own, which means they will set even the most simplest of tops off. Even when the warmer weather approaches you could team t-shirts and singlet style of tops with the pants for a different look.

If you turn your attention to street style stars on Instagram, you will notice the most popular option of styling the striped pants is to team a print tee with them, plus denim jacket & white sneakers. There are literally no rules when it comes to pairing tops with striped pants, with so much endless options it’s entirely individual on the look that you want to achieve.

Do avoid anything that is printed though, as it will look all too much and take away the minimalistic edge. Opt for a neutral colour palette and be careful with brights as they can become too over-bearing. If you want to add colour to your look, then choose some bold accessories.

While the weather might still be cold, it’s best to team cropped style jackets with the pants. Anything such as long cardigans or coats, won’t sit well over the pants, cropped lengths help to add dimension to the outfit and proportion.  By far the most comfortable pair of pants I own, the culottes are fast becoming my go-to option.

When trying on different pairs, look for those that have a high-waist, as it is the most flattering style of all kinds of pants. You should find that the culottes have an elastic waist band, and unlike a jean offer a more polished smarter finish. As with any item, it’s important to find a pair that suits your body, so never compromise on fit.

For the purpose of this look, I decided to team a pair of open-toed boots with the pants, which were a perfect choice for this weather. When opting for different style of shoes with the culotte, I generally prefer to favour shoes with a higher-heel, just as it helps to elongate the silhouette and balances out the length of the pants.

However for a street-style look you could even team a pair of sneakers with the outfit. In terms of accessories, I have opted to keep mine very minimal this time, as I wanted the focus to remain on the pants. Aside from a few rings, I chose to team my black patent Mimco bag with the outfit. The next time your looking for a trans-seasonal piece to introduce into your wardrobe, try turing your attention to culottes for an on-trend option!
