Check Mate

With the trend of the season and print of the moment, it’s time to turn your attention to checks! From classic checked blazers to fun flirty checked skirts, it’s time to embrace this Autumn/Winter 18 trend. In this week’s blog post, I’ve styled this checked jumpsuit with some key winter pieces. See below for a full break down of the look.

When it comes to embracing a new trend, my biggest piece of advice is to start with pieces that you feel most comfortable wearing. I have always loved the check print, there is just something very classic and striking about checks, almost like a status/style symbol.

Unlike florals, that stand out and have a pop factor, checks can be a little more understated and have a slightly more serious tone. The best advantage with checks, is that the grey colour palette blends in very well with existing pieces and is ideal for the Winter season.

This full-length checked jumpsuit is available from Dotti, and was my first checked piece to invest in. The intricate style and cut of the jumpsuit, makes it the perfect Winter wardrobe must-have.

The jumpsuit features a cut out detail at the front and follows through to a culottes style pant. (As well as a back zip, there is a front tie) Even though this particular style of jumpsuit is more open, it can be layered with separate pieces and teamed with a jacket to bring into the Winter season.

For a safe but extremely versatile look, try teaming a leather jacket with the jumpsuit for on-trend style.

If you want to experiment with something different than try teaming either a print tee underneath the jumpsuit and then wearing the leather jacket on top.

Even try a throwback look and wear a white shirt underneath. When it comes to pairing shoes with the look, I opted for these black lace up ankle boots for extra edge.

However, if you want to achieve a street style look, then try a pair of white sneakers. Team your favourite bag with this look and add some subtle accessories and your look is complete.
