Breaking the Rules: How to Wear Over-The-Knee Boots in the Day

One of my favourite trends of the Winter 17’ season is the return of the over-the-knee boots. Possibly here to stay for good, this 90’s trend is back this season in the form of suede. Next to scarves, gloves, beanies and coats, a new pair of boots always seems to make the top of my ‘Winter Wish list’. In this week’s blog post, I wanted to create a go-anywhere day look featuring a pair of over-the-knee boots.

In order to create a day look with long boots, it’s important to team light colours with dark shades, as this way it balances out the outfit. I love wearing chambray denim shirts and always find they strike a balance between casual yet smart. There is also a very effortless feel to a denim shirt which will be perfect for teaming with a pair of statement boots.

All year round you can find denim shirts in the stores, so if you don’t already own one or need to refresh your already existing piece, hit stores such as Dotti, Sportsgirl, Forevernew. Denim shirts offer a great range of mileage as they can be worn in both the Summer and Winter seasons.

Another trend that I would deem a Winter staple is the A-line leather skirt. Leather never truly leaves us, it just comes back each season with a twist! The particular cut of an A Line skirt allows for it to still be short in length yet offers a very polished finish and chic, flirty and fun style.

The skirt that I am wearing is available from Kookai, stores such as Bardot and Sportsgirl also offer similar styles. If you already own a black leather skirt, try opting for tan or beige as something different and will still compliment a chambray shirt.

To complete your look, team a pair of over-the-knee boots with your outfit for up to the minute style. With so many variations of boots, opting for a suede fabric will allow you more options and instantly becomes accessible to wear during the day.I particular liked the taupe colour too, which is something new to my wardrobe yet provides more mileage than just a pair of black boots (which I may own just a tinsy bit too many pairs!)

Whenever looking at colours, step outside your comfort zone and try a lighter colour as the purpose of this look was for day and if wearing black, it will make your look very dressy.

Add any accessories that you like to the look, I chose to keep the accessories very minimal with this look, as the outfit itself is quite effortless and I did not want to overpower it. Try adding a pair of statement sunglasses and cross-body bag for a touch of edge.
