1. The Light Denim Jacket
A denim jacket could be described as a cult-wardrobe essential, more than just an investment piece, but rather a key player that never dates. The first denim jacket was created in1880 by denim legend Levi’s founder, Levi Strauss. With each season, we see variations of the denim jacket and this current season the light-wash denim jacket has been dubbed a favourite to embrace.
It’s time to put the dark washes aside and focus on something a little lighter. Despite the time of the year or season, a denim jacket is one of the few pieces that you can literally wear all year round, even on the hottest of Summer days. As by evening, you’re guaranteed to feel the summer breeze and so you prefer to wear a light weight piece without feeling hot, which is why the denim jacket is a perfect option. Keep in mind that a denim jacket is also a great way to add interest to a simple outfit, adding a touch of style to almost any look. Second to the blazer, the denim jacket is one piece that I almost never leave home without.
2. The Slip Cami
The 2016 Summer season saw the onslaught of the 90’s cult staple slip dress return to runways, a trend that is reminiscent of the past, either way, slips were everywhere.Admittedly I’m a little late to jump on to the trend and may not be a fan of the t-shirt worn underneath the dress, however with the Summer weather, I like the idea of wearing a cami teamed under a jacket, with the jacket worn draped over the shoulders.
The slip cami can very much give any outfit an on-trend look, for an evening look try wearing the cami alone, (as see pictured above) teamed with a pair of black leather look pants and a blazer. Opt for lighter colours such as champagne or nudes which help to add variety to your outfits and provide a subtle pop of colour.
3. The White Shorts
When piecing together the perfect summer look, keep in mind that a staple pair of white shorts will help bring everything together. Perhaps one of my favourite colours to wear in Summer is white, it keeps your outfit fresh and light, which quickly compliments the other pieces that you are wearing.
The fabric of the shorts that I am wearing is a denim. The reason that I opted for denim is that they provide structure and are very accessible in terms of places to wear. If you already own a pair of white denim shorts, try a cotton or linen fabric as a variation, both will still look fresh and work for a multitude of purposes and occasions.
