To mark the offical first month of Spring, in this week’s blog post I am rekindling my love affair with denim shirts. There is nothing quite like the feeling of getting back into a denim shirt after a long cold winter dominated by wool coats and cashmere scarfs. Whilst it still might be a few more weeks away till the warmth of the Spring sunshine may be felt, a denim shirt makes for the perfect go-to trans-seasonal piece for Spring.
Dressing for the trans-seasonal months need not be a daunting task, as I will show you how to create the perfect Spring inspired look to start wearing…NOW, with three key pieces including a denim chambray shirt, distressed jeans and an oversized tote.
Start with a denim shirt. Now if you don’t already own one, then I strongly suggest investing in this piece as it tops the list of my Spring staple pieces. The mileage that a denim shirt will give you is nothing short of limitless and as each Spring/Summer season comes around, denim chambray shirts are consistently having an ‘it” moment. The shirt I am wearing is by Miss Shop, Myer. Brands such as Sportsgirl, ForeverNew and Witchery also offer a great selection of different versions of the denim shirt.
A few styling tips to consider when shopping for your next denim shirt is to remember that denim shirts are generally produced in relaxed fits and will sit slightly loose on the body. Opt to choose styles that offer a smaller cut, as this way if you are petite like moi (not exactly…6 ft tall!) then the small cut will provide shape for the upper body and balance out the rest of the shirt. Having the option to layer your shirt is hugely beneficial, so when the Spring nights are still just a bit too cold, try teaming a boyfriend blazer over the shirt for an edgier look.
Compliment your denim chambray shirt with a pair of distressed jeans. I opted for a classic pair of black ripped jeans by Saba. To give the look a lighter resort style feel, try swapping the black distressed jeans for a white boyfriend jean, which will give you a very fresh and vibrant outfit. Another styling tip is to try loosely tucking in the shirt to the front button of your jeans, for an effortless polished finish.
Complete your look by adding a statement over-sized tote bag for extra impact. Tan is often my go-to colour preference for bags and accessories, as it’s a great way to balance out the darker colours in my outfit. Now, depending on the type of occasion you are planning to wear this look, simply swap your shoes from heels to sneakers to match the event or outing.
For coffee catch-ups with girlfriends I would opt for a white sneaker and for long table sit down lunches, I would favour a pair tan stilettos (As seen in images).
