Back to Black

As we are now approaching the end of the final month of Winter, I decided I would see the winter weather out with a classic ensemble of an all black uniform. I must confess that I may have been slightly naive when I chose to share with my girlfriends that this upcoming Spring I won’t be wearing black! (Gasps of disbelief were heard) Despite avoiding comments from various people in the past, as to why I always wear black, I instantly feel a strong desire to defend ‘uniform dressing’.

An ensemble of all black will always ensure you look stylish, polished and suitably dressed no matter where you go. The mileage of an all black ensemble cannot be underestimated and when you missed a week or…. FIVE at the spray tanning salon, you take comfort in the fact that black compliments all skin colours. Maybe my friends don’t believe that I’ll stop wearing black…..maybe I don’t believe it myself, however with Spring just around the corner, it will be the perfect time to re-discover pastel shades.

In this week’s post I’ll show you how to achieve this look with only three key pieces, including a pair of tights, a tunic and a statement cross body bag. Tights are a great starting point with this look, I opted to wear my wet look tights (which has given me so much mileage, as seen in my previous posts), however if you don’t own a pair of these try a plain black tight or even a black skinny jean will work. One of the advantages to uniform dressing is that it is completely individual and you can team existing pieces with your new pieces, there are just no rules!

Next, consider layering on top of your tights a tunic. I love wearing tunics for a variety of reasons, they are perfect companions for tights and give you multiple options to wear in both the cold and warm seasons! The tunic I am wearing in the images is available from Witchery, the benefits of this style of tunic was the closed in neckline and long-sleeve which has served me well through the cold winter months. As an alternative, try wearing your tunic without tights and just a pair of over-the-knee suede boots for some serious edgy dressing.

In order to bring your look together, team a cross-body bag over your outfit for ultimate chic style. The bag I am wearing in the images is by Michael Kors, the gold chain on this bag helped to add a touch of glam to my look and provides an even balance between the all black ensemble.

Consider the places or occasion where you’re planning on wearing your outfit and alternate your bags.  For a slightly more casual look opt for a tan cross body and swap stilettos for a wedge. Finish your look off with a pair of tan open-toed boots for an subtle addition of colour and style.
