Sleeveless jackets are the unsung hero of transitional dressing. You may think a jacket that’s missing one of its key components is superfluous at best, but that’s not always the case. When it’s warm outside, wear it with a sleeveless top; when it gets cooler, wear it with a sweater underneath; when it gets cold, wear it as an extra layer with a coat on top. Basically, it’ll carry you from autumn to winter seamlessly.
I love this time of the season when we swap our wedges for open-toed boots, distressed jeans for tights and off-the shoulder tops for a sleeveless vest or trench. Granted, the trans-seasonal weather isn’t the easiest to dress for, however with this week’s fashion post, I bring you another option for the never ending trans-seasonal weather!
For this week’s trans-seasonal look, I have decided to base my outfit around this white vest (available at Forever New). Firstly the versatility of the vest is endless, if you don’t already own one then I strongly suggest investing in this ‘IT’ item of the season, stores such as Forever New, Sportsgirl and Witchery all offer a great variety of different cuts and fabrics. I’m sure by now you all know that I love a classic colour palette of white/cream & black, which made it a very easy choice when investing in this white vest. I also like to think ahead to the winter season and always find myself uniform dressing.
A few tips to consider when purchasing the right vest/sleevless trench for your personal style and wardrobe include-
-Choosing a vest from the same or similar colour palette of your existing wardrobe will ensure you get the most milEage out of this piece and will complEment your clothes.
-Avoid lightweight fabrics and instead choose heavier types such as jacquard or cotton, as the weather iS only going to get colder, you want your the item to be winter proof.
-Be mindful of the cut, when wearing sleeveless jackets/trenches the item must be fitted around the shoulders which will provide much needed structure and give a polished finish.
When it came to styling the vest, I chose to pair wet-look tights with my top rather than opting for a jean or cropped pant. Tights are a great substitute for the jeans and giving the outfit extra edge and a high-fashion element. The most important tip I can give you when wearing tights is to wear a longer top over the tights as this will give you a very chic finish.
Style your look to perfection by introducing a few tan pieces to compliment the black and white colour palette. To create definition between both the black under top and tights, I added a thin tan belt which helps to break up the two pieces of clothing and gives the outfit a hint of colour. In keeping with my choice of tan accessories I teamed this tan bucket bag with the look for both style and colour.
Finally complete the look by pairing open-toed boots with your outfit for a very on-trend instant style. To avoid looking to ‘matchy’ I deliberately chose a taupe coloured boot which subtly complimented the other pieces in my outfit and didn’t detract from the vest.
