One of the most popular trends for Spring/Summer ’15 is white denim jeans, possibly more versatile than your regular blue denim, white jeans will fast become the ‘transeasonal’ piece to get you from the winter to the the spring. In this weeks’ post, I will take you through how to choose the right style of jean for you (and yes it does take some time….but is worth it in the end, I promise) and give you some styling tips and tricks for creating the perfect outfit.
Being that the core foundation of this look is the jeans, I deliberately kept the rest of my outfit simple & minimalist, to keep the focus on the jeans. However with all the endless combinations you can team with white jeans, my advice when starting to think about outfits is to go to the grey/beige/nude shades for complimenting your jeans. As these jeans serve a big purpose in the spring, keep your colour palette light and minimal, this way it offsets the jeans and ensures they remain the focal point of your outfit.
Do experiment with a light denim chambray shirt, for effortless sophistication or team a longline beige cardigan for a touch of subtle glam. My advice would be to avoid black, however hints of black is fine, your aim is just to keep the outfit light and easy, if you do want to introduce black then I suggest pairing a nautical striped top with the jeans for an ever so chic parisian look!
Whether you already own a pair of white jeans or are in need of a new pair, there are are a few things to consider when starting your search for the perfect pair. Firstly be open to a few different styles, you may be surprised at what type suit you best, as in this case I opted for a Boyfriend style, which proved to be the best choice for me. This particular style worked best due to the versatility of the jean and structured fit that also felt the most comfortable. Boyfriend jeans have become my go-to style apart from a traditional skinny jean. When choosing white denim be aware of the fabric, if it’s skin tight, then it can prove to be a little less practical to wear and not to mention unflattering.
Do be prepared to try on numerous pairs of jeans, but aim to have an idea of exactly how you would like to wear them. If you love wearing cropped tops then choose a pair that is high waisted, or if you are going to team them with flats, then cuff the bottoms to show off your shoes better. As you are probably aware, I always turn to accessories to finish off a look, whether there minimal delicate pieces or chunky statement necklaces, be mindful of silver pieces that work particularly well with white denim. Add three or more slim wrist cuffs for a nice polished look and try working statement rings into your outfit. For ultimate high-street glam, choose a tan crossbody bag to compliment your outfit and colour palette.
