Smooth Sailing

The nautical print is that one trend that never fails to go out of style and yet keeps going from strength to strength with various designers reinventing different pieces, that every season we see these iconic colours featured in regular collections. Nautical dressing is replicated in every country and is something that I like to refer as having ‘world-wide’ appeal, we often associate nautical with Parisian lifestyle and luxuries.

This week’s post features this anchor print knit top from Review’s latest collection, plus tips to remember when styling your look. Firstly when choosing knits, I always prefer fitted petite pieces over chunky oversized clothing, as they give shape to the body and are just a teensy bit easier to pull off. I love the ‘look’ of over sized knits on other fashionistas but I personally can never seem to pull it off. When selecting your knitwear be aware of fabric and shape, as the last thing you want is for your top to stretch out of shape and you will quickly loose that feminine, chic look. Knits are also my personal go-to winter essentials because I love the way they feel on the skin and are always so comfortable.

To keep with the theme of this look, it was an easy choice to team this black leather kookai skirt with this knit. When choosing a skirt opt for an A-line style as this way keeps the look classic, fun and flirty plus it’s the most versatile of the leather skirts. As the skirt is high waisted I would usually team a cropped top with it, however I love the effortless look and ease of the knit, so I decided to team it over the skirt.

WIth so many various ways to wear and style your knits, it will really depend on your personal style and how you like to wear different pieces. I have always loved dressing up my knits, so I chose to team it with a leather high-waisted A-line skirt, by introducing a leather skirt it gives the look an edgier vibe yet still classic and iconic at the same time.

Accessories play are very minimal part in this look, the only suggestion I would have is to add some statement rings for interest and choose a cross body bag for ultimate on trend style. Depending on where you are planning to wear your outfit you can team a pair of flat over the knee boots for a touch of glam or wear without tights in slightly warmer weather and a pair of ballerina flats. There is just such an ease to this outfit that it will come together very easily regardless if you don’t own/have every piece of this look. Remember nautical has been reinvented so many times that there is really no right or wrong way to wear this trend, just put your own individual take on it and you will be fine.
